The only thing better than a great laptop is a great laptop that's on sale. To help Mashable readers find their next computer, we're compiling a running list of the best laptop deals across major retailers right here every week. From the latest Apple MacBooks to cheap Chromebooks for homework, versatile 2-in-1s for streaming and drawing, and premium gaming machines with a ton of horsepower, read on for our top picks as of Sept. 23 (categorized by price).

Best laptop deals under $300

Why we like it

This Dell laptop features a 12th-generation Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage, and a 15.6-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It's a spec sheet we rarely see at this price point: Most cheap, entry-level PCs under $300 have dinky Intel Celeron N Series CPUs, 4GB of RAM, pokier eMMC flash storage, and 60Hz refresh rates. It's down to $299.99 on Dell's website — that's not much of a discount on its MSRP, but it's a stellar price for these specs.

Our pick: Lenovo Yoga 7i
$499.99 at Best Buy (save $350) + free 1-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership

Why we like it

The Lenovo Yoga 7i is a consistently top-rated convertible/hybrid laptop with a sleek, flippable design and an impressive all-day battery life. The base configuration of the latest 14-inch model comes with a new 13th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, 512GB of SSD storage, and a bright 2.2K touchscreen. It usually retails for $849.99, but Best Buy will give it to you for just $499.99 and throw in a free 1-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. That beats its current price on the brand's website by $50 (with no freebie included).

Our pick: Apple MacBook Air, 13.6-inch (M2)
$899 at Best Buy (save $200); extra $50 off with paid My Best Buy membership

Why we like it

The M2-powered Apple MacBook Air from late 2022 is our favorite MacBook on the market and a Mashable Choice Award-winner for its long battery life, stellar keyboard, and speedy performance. It typically starts at $1,099 for 256GB of storage, but right now Best Buy has it on sale for only $899 — a match of its all-time low on Amazon, where it's been sold out for months. What's more, you can take an extra $50 off that price if you're a paid member of the retailer's My Best Buy program. That's easily one of the best prices on a current-gen MacBook we've ever seen.

Our pick: Apple MacBook Air, 15.6-inch (M2)
$1,049 at Best Buy (save $250); extra $50 off with paid My Best Buy membership

Why we like it

This year's 15-inch version of the M2 MacBook Air upgrades it with a slightly larger (but just as pretty) Liquid Retina display and two extra speakers (six instead of four). Best of all, it still only weighs about three pounds. Best Buy and Amazon both have the 256GB model marked down to a new all-time low of $1,049 (normally $1,299), though the former shaves an additional $50 off for paid My Best Buy members.

Another Mashable Choice Award-winner, the original Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio sports a unique pull-forward 14.4-inch PixelSense Flow touchscreen display that makes it "part laptop, part drawing pad, and part tablet," said Mashable tech and games reporter Alex Perry. This particular configuration comes with a high-end 11th-gen Intel Core i7 H-Series CPU with 16GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics, and 512GB of SSD storage. It's a little dated, but it has a great price in the wake of Microsoft's Surface Laptop Studio 2 reveal: You can snag it on sale for $1,699.99 at Best Buy, or $400 off its $2,099.99 MSRP. The same model sold out at $1,899 on the Microsoft website.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are several times throughout the year when we see extra-low prices on laptops:

  • Around Amazon Prime Day (which happened on July 11 and 12 this year; another Prime event is scheduled for October)

  • During back-to-school sales in July and August (which come to a head over Labor Day weekend)

  • When retailers' Black Friday and holiday deals are in full swing from October to December

  • Whenever manufacturers unveil next-generation models

With that in mind, keep an eye out for additional price drops on Microsoft Surface laptops in the wake of the company's recent Surface Laptop Go 3 and Surface Laptop Studio 2 announcements.

Best Buy tends to be the best major retailer for laptop deals, followed by Amazon and Walmart. That said, all three sell a lot of discontinued models and often inflate original list prices, making their deals look better than they actually are. (Amazon and Walmart are also rife with sketchy listings from third-party sellers.)

As such, we always cross-check model numbers and prices with manufacturers' direct websites. Most of them are usually running sales of their own, too: At the time of writing, Apple and MSI's back-to-school sales were still live; Lenovo was running an End of Summer Clearance Sale; and Acer, Dell, HP, and Samsung's websites featured discounts on select tech.

We're partial to Acer, Apple, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, Microsoft, MSI, Razer, and Samsung. They're reputable brands that typically tick most (or all) of the right boxes when it comes to innovative features, durable build quality, and overall value.
